Ack - still sick with a low grade fever and cough, but here are some random fiber-related thoughts floating in my fog-sick head (really, I did not plan all those ffff’s):
- I finally had professional slides taken of my fiber art work on Thursday. I have been planning to do this for months and I am thrilled to have finally done it. I pick up the slides on Tuesday - I hope they look gorgeous. Now, I did this for a reason but I do not want to reveal why yet - jinxing myself, you know how it is.
- I really want to learn how to knit socks. My friend, Alex, is an incredible sock knitter and I am inspired by her creations. I found two web pages chock full of information on the topic. I have only begun to look at all the information. Any recommendations on a beginner sock pattern out there?
- You might already know about these two webpages on socks; here they are in case you are interested in learning how to knit socks too:
- Beginning Spinning class starts next week. I am so excited about this!
- I am trying to achieve a gender balance in my blog roll. I started reading brooklyn tweed, who I learned about via Fig and Plum, and knit-o-rama, who I learned about through brooklyn tweed (gotta love the magic of the link).
- And don’t forget to call your mom this weekend for Mother’s Day! (Hi Mom xoxoxo)

The city of sin is also the city of germs - I caught a cold. I feel a little better but I occasionally feel a little woozy.
Now that I am home, I am watching CSI Las Vegas on the tube and trying to see if it seems at all like what I just experienced this weekend. Not really, of course. Although, if you’ve seen one interior of a casino you’ve seen them all. Shoot, I just thought of something — I should have looked up if there were any yarn stores in Vegas!
I was productive knitting-wise while out there. I started this scarf on the plane, worked on it as we drove through the desert (104 degrees on Sunday!), and I think it is about half-way done.

“Hey gal, how much for that poncho?”

That’s Winnie & Buck behind me at the Harrah’s Casino.

Las Vegas is definitely unlike anything else I have ever encountered (and a great place to show off my new poncho!). It’s so bizarre, this city in the middle of the desert. But it did not even seem like a city, more like a huge strip mall with gambling and shows.
We only had a couple of hours, before Darren’s gig, to check out the casinos. Darren and I started at Harrah’s, made our way through Caesar’s Palace, wandered through the Bellagio where I gawked at this amazing Dale Chihuly glass ceiling sculpture –

and then we ended at the fountain –

Oh look, Paris is right over the horizon –

The end of a long night in Las Vegas –

And here are the specs on the poncho –

I finished fringing the poncho last night. (I could not wait to do it for the plane ride.) It’s all ready for it’s West coast debut - photos will be posted upon return!
But now I need something to knit or crochet for the trip. I may just pull out some yarn from my stash and do something easy, like make a skinny scarf for the summer . . . basically I am winging it.

I have been furiously trying to finish my Tahki Yarns poncho over the last three nights. I want to be able to wear it this weekend because I am going to the West coast - and - To Vegas Baby!
I knit the last row of K3 P1 last night and tonight it is all about the seaming. I am thinking about adding the fringe on the plane ride out - give me something to do on the long flight. I will precut all the yarn and then spread myself out on the pull-out tray. I always take an aisle seat so whoever is sitting next to me hopefully will not be too bothered by my craftiness. Actually, whenever I knit or crochet on the plane people are always nice. I am always careful to pack bamboo tools and no scissors in my carry-on bag so I have never had a problem with security either, but I do carry a self-addressed envelope just in case.I am looking forward to Vegas - never been there before. Darren is performing there so it is a combination of work / fun.
On the horizon - I signed up for Beginner Spinning - whoot!
