LAMC in NYC

Posted in Music, NYC, Uncategorized at 7:10 pm by delipics

Fiber things have been put on hold for this week for another creative pursuit - MUSIC. I’ve been busy running around with Darren watching his band play in the Latin Alternative Music Conference. Not only did I watch Spigga at the Mercury Lounge, I also caught Pistolera, Roxing Kafe and Leo Machado. I alway feel like I would like to know more about other creative areas, such as the performing arts. Here I am in NYC and there is so much music, dance, drama - but not enough time and sometimes it can be mucho $$$. I try to grab the opportunity to experience creativity that’s different from my venue whenever I can. (Fortunately, Brooklyn and NYC has a lot of free events during the summer for music or dance or drama.) So while I am one sleepy groupie, it’s all worth it, and I do like watching Darren play guitar too (hee hee!).

You like my artsy photo?

The other thing we did together was our all-day NYC outing. We went to the Central Park Zoo - can you believe I have never been?

I love how I can get lost in the nature of Central Park yet be in the middle of a big city. And of course, we needed sustenance afterwards.

Random Wednesday Fiber Thoughts

Random Fiber Links

Claudia Skoda - sexy knitwear designer - click on collection to see a slide show of her hip, body-hugging designs. What I was originally looking for was a link to her knitted cigarette jeans that I saw in -

WWDFAST - where you can also read about the top fashion blogs

Carole Barenys Seamless Yoked Sweater - my friend, Alex, is knitting this and it looks adorable. Now I want to make it too! In my July Project Updates, I started a baby sweater for a friend’s upcoming baby. This project has been languishing in a basket. It’s an easy pattern and I love the yarn, but I keep asking myself, why am I making a wool sweater for a baby in L.A.? Maybe I can make this sweater out of cotton or maybe a cotton/wool blend? Maybe I am just feeling antsy and want to start a new project and ignore all my other projects. (Yup, that’s the one!)

The Yarn Tree is 5 Years Old (& they’re having a sale to celebrate)

Posted in Uncategorized at 9:38 am by delipics

Congratulations to Linda and The Yarn Tree!

The one thing that will lure me out of air-conditioned goodness is a yarn sale.

From The Yarn Tree e-mail newsletter:

August Anniversary Sale - 20% off!
The Yarn Tree is celebrating it’s 5th year in business and to thank you, our wonderful customers, we are having a month-long August Anniversary Sale. This means that all merchandise sales, whether in the store, online or by phone, will receive a 20% discount. Just enter the code “Anniversary” in the voucher area when you check out online, or if you are at our store, simply mention the August Anniversary Sale to receive your discount!

This is a great opportunity to stock up on yarn for all your fall knitting  and crocheting projects.

It has been an amazing five years. We’ve expanded the retail and classroom space twice. We’ve added to the variety of classes that we teach. The new studio space made it possible to bring in guest artists to give workshops. We’ve built an e-commerce site that brings in orders from around the world. This year you put The Yarn Tree in the Zagat’s Shopping Guide and we were mentioned in The New York Times Style Section.

What’s coming up? Right now I am writing a book to be published by Potter Crafts. It is a how-to on yarn dyeing and contains knitting and crochet patterns from The Yarn Tree, designed not only by me, but also in collaboration with several of my Yarn Tree friends. The book should be on the shelves in September of 2007.

I’ve been looking through all the photos and thinking of how many people have passed through the door - and what a terrific journey this has been!! Thank You One And All!

And Thank You Linda!  You’re great!
