I got the email last night about The Point closing, and I am in shock. I was just there two weekends ago knitting with friends. I can’t believe it. This is truly a sad event.
The members of The Point group on Ravelry have been busy on the discussion board. We all share similar feelings about The Point’s closing. It wasn’t just a regular yarn store. It combined very important qualities that a community of knitters and crocheters were looking for in the city - yarn and it’s accoutrements were a given - but there was also warmth, friendly assistance, no yarn-snob attitude, laughter, genuine people, fun and sugary sweets. People have been asking where else are we going to go now? There is no where to go.
Thank you to the owner and staff of The Point - it was a unique and special place.

I unsubscribed to two newsletters! And I feel great!
I think it’s time to admit to the burden of the internet and shed some of the weight. I do embrace the internet community - online knit or crochet magazines, the numerous blogs, the ability to find the information I need or people who can help, the endless array of resources and references out there for every one to access - but it was time to make some choices for myself. I admitted to a friend/KB@W there were one or two knit-related newsletters that I never read or delete right away and guess what, she was doing the same thing. It made me realize what do I want to get from an online newsletter, what I do not need, and then I was able to edit them out of my email.
If I could only shed body weight so easily!

The gals decided to knit at The Point this past Sunday - Maria, Jocelyn, Alex, Pauline, Sophia, May, and Elizabeth. I love getting together to do this - I laugh so hard when I’m with these ladies. There were stories on knitting needle nightmares on airplanes, whatever happened to Maria’s husband’s sweater (you’ll have to ask her!), latest knitting projects, love lives and other mishaps. It was great to meet Sophia and May for the first time and to catch up with Elizabeth who I last saw about two years ago (!) in the spindle spinning class at The Yarn Tree.
Frustrating surprise - my camera battery died, grrr! Just as I was taking a photo of Alex and her belated birthday gift. I went to Purlchet and found a skein of Noro sock yarn in gorgeous blues and greens and a Namaste Mini Cozy bag for holding DPNs. I wonder what sock pattern A. will use for the yarn?
Big surprise - was when Ysolda Teague walked into the store! We had no idea she was having a trunk show that day. We all took turns admiring her designs and trying them on. My favorite is the Liesl sweater. Ysolda was wearing a version of Liesl in light gray. She was also signing her new book, Whimsical Little Knits, which I bought! Boo hoo, expired camera battery, no photos! Note to self: Always check camera battery the night before!
Happy surprise - In walked Kara and Johanna - Maria and I raved about her amugarumi dolls to the table.
Last surprise - At the end of the day I’m still hanging out with Sophia, trying to decide if it’s time for me to go home, she’s waiting for her friend, Connie, to show up. Well, I didn’t know she meant meeting knit designer, Connie. I’m glad I stayed and chatted longer.

Are you one of those people who sign up for every free newsletter related to a knitting/crochet/or other fiber-related website? Aren’t you excited when the newsletter comes in? You happily read the newsletters every day, perhaps print out important ones, save all the free patterns.
But then you think, okay, I’ll read this later because I have to INSERT TASK HERE and then . . . . a week goes by - and another - and another - and then you have all these newsletters piled up in your email account and you simply do not have time to catch up with all the reading.
I used to move my newsletters into different folders in an attempt to feel organized but that was just a ploy - as was flagging the emails. Unread newsletters are unread newsletters.
Yesterday, as I was viewing all the unread newsletters in my email, I realized - I HAVE NEWSLETTER FATIGUE! I cannot keep up with all the knitting tidbits, crochet updates, daily fiber info! I am no longer enjoying this. I really hate how all those unread emails glare at me accusingly.
Does anyone else feel like this?
So what to do ? Possibilities include winnowing down to the top three favorite newsletters, or pick one newsletter for knitting, one newsletter for crochet, etc., and then the most extreme example is to unsubscribe to all of them, but would I feel completely 0ut of touch? What to do, what to do . . .

Oma celebrated her 100th birthday party!

Darren and I went out to NJ for his Oma’s centennial birthday. It was a great party - family, friends, love, fun and good eating (yum - her cake was half chocolate/cherry and half vanilla/lemon)! I made her a photo album from a Me and My Big Ideas kit that I bought at Michael’s. I followed these directions from the Michael’s website. Remember sticker books? That’s what this kit was like - a grown-up sticker book.

I love the paper designs - here are some thumbnail shots:

I also made the birthday card - it’s part of my crafty resolution. I have decided for this year I will make all my cards. I was motivated to do this after spending $11.00 dollars for three cards - rip off!
The same day I bought the photo album kit, I stocked up on card making supplies. Awesome Mom had a coupon - discount! I can’t wait to try the Martha Stewart edge punch for threading ribbons through the card stock.

And here is the card, exterior and interior.

Continuing with crafty goodness - I made my first purchase on Etsy from Bayan Hippo.

This is my new spring bag and I love it! First, it’s the right size - big enough to tote around all my junk but not too big that I tend to overstuff. The color is a fabulous spring-ready red. It is well made and is surviving the rough-and-tumble world of the NYC subway. It has a handy key chain hook - I attached my work ID to it. The handle is wide enough to sit on my shoulder comfortably and the two interior pockets hold my lip gloss, Ricola, metro card, cell phone, and business cards.
Mother’s Day is coming up - new card to design and create!
