It’s been a Yarn Tree weekend! I volunteered for The Yarn Tree to help do demonstrations for Shearing Days at the Prospect Park Zoo. We lucked out and got a gorgeous day for it so we were busy all day.
Shannon, Sasha and I showed kiddies how to make felted wool balls -
There was also weaving, spinning, finger crochet and knitting and Kool-Aid dying.

And the most exciting event of the day - the shearing!
This is Wallace before -
Here is Wallace after . . . I love his little shock of hair over his forehead - sweet!
And here is Wallace’s 10 lbs. of fleece . . . . I wonder how many skeins we could get out of that?

Finished looking over the spring/summer Knit Simple. And this is the most important thing I got out of it –
How does one get the job “Yarn Coordinator”? I’m extremely curious about this - what type of background do you need to qualify? Education? Job experience? What do I have to do to change career paths?
No, really — I liked the article on stash knitting and the other article on using the Fibonacci sequence to help design and choose colors. The patterns featured did not excite me but the crochet flowers were charming. There is something very appealing about flowers as an accessory.
But what I am really itching for is Erika Knight’s latest book, “Essential Crochet: Create 30 Irresistible Projects with a Few Basic Stitches.” Also, I got my North American Felters’ Network newsletter in the mail today - hurrah! I just subscribed to it so I have been looking forward to receiving it - it will make good subway commuting reading.

Wondering what I bought? A cute knitted top for the summer and yarn - but not for me. When I have too much yarn and I know I should not purchase more, I have a technique that fulfills the need but doesn’t add more to my stash: I buy for friends! I bought three different balls of yarn in the pinky/red family for a friend’s upcoming birthday.
