Jane Austen Ad Infinitum

Posted in Uncategorized at 4:37 pm by delipics

I did it . ..

. . . I saw Becoming Jane. I was worried it was going to have a high cheese factor, but for what it is, I thought the director did a good job with it. You have to let yourself go with the whole story. Yes, it is fictional, but if you have a romantic soul, you’ll enjoy it. (Personally, while James McAvoy is a fine actor as Tom Lefroy , I don’t know if he’s the guy who would make my heart thump. Now Joe Anderson, who played Henry Austen, hmmmm . . .)

. . . I bought the A&E production of Pride and Prejudice on DVD. I happened to be walking to the subway after work, took a detour into Best Buy and ended up in the video section. I watched it all the way through over three nights and now I periodically pop the DVD in the player and watch about 20 minute segments for pure enjoyment. It’s an illness, I know.

And . . .

. . . I’m so glad not martha mentioned Austenland - possible new end-of-summer-fun-read.

. . . if you follow the links, you get to Shannon Hale’s letter to Colin Firth - witty!

Austen Ad Infinitum continues - I thought I had a copy of Pride and Prejudice in my house and, gasp! I do not! I have all her books except Mansfield Park (I read it and threw the book out because I was so very angry with the heroine’s character.) Now I must go and obtain a copy!

Dreaming

Posted in CTS/RSI, Uncategorized at 6:21 am by delipics

I had a dream I was knitting. I’ve never had knitting dreams before. I wish I could remember the complete context of the dream. I knew I was knitting because I held up the project to take a look at it.

Second opinion next week on the CTS/RSI - fingers crossed!

Jumping On the Jane Bandwagon

Yes, she’s one of my favorite authors . . . Yes, I’ve read all her books . . . Yes, I read The Jane Austen Book Club . . . . and since the new movie, Becoming Jane, is coming out, here’s a few Austen-related links - knitting and non:

And if you have at least two hours or more to spare out of your life - go on over to You Tube, type in “Jane Austen” in the search window, and watch watch watch! Definitely view what The NYT recommends.

Hey A - Still thinking about that party with the food of Jane Austen’s time-period theme?

And I can’t wait for this in 2008 - someone stop me from buying all the videos!

Creative Tug of War

Posted in Uncategorized at 4:35 pm by delipics

I totally forgot to post this about two weeks ago!

My Birthday Vacation is over - sigh! It’s back to work tomorrow and I’ve got the Sunday night blues. I felt like I should have done something spectacular this weekend since it was the end of my vacation - but I didn’t. I think the most exciting thing I did was to get a manicure and pedicure today. Must remember - going to the nail salon on Mother’s Day not necessarily a good idea - it was packed. I lucked out and showed up when there must have been a lull during the day because there was no wait, but by the time I left there the customers had a 30 to 45 minute wait.

I did work on my needs-to-be-named knitting project. I’ve only done 1 1/2 inches of K1 P1 rib and a couple rows of the chain stitch, that’s why no photos. I’m easily distracted though - while working on this I look longingly at some sock yarn I have next to the couch and think about starting that too. Which I might - but I shouldn’t - but the beginning of this project is kind of boring - so I might - but I shouldn’t!

What I really should not have done was take out my sewing machine because now that is tempting me. It all started with the organization of my spring clothes and weeding out the fall clothes to go to Salvation Army. There are two dresses and one denim skirt whose hems I want to shorten. In a fit of inspired fury of sewing, I shortened the denim skirt but forced myself to stop there and go back to knitting. But now that the sewing machine is all set up on my table, I want to pull out some fabric I’ve been saving to make a project bag. It is a tug of creative war here. Sewing / Knitting. Knitting / Sewing. Help!

This is why I refuse to start any other hobbies.
